A South Florida-based developer has announced Marshalls and three other tenants for a proposed 150,000-square-foot center set to break ground later this year across the street from Trump National Doral near Miami.
The discount clothing retailer and 24-Hour Fitness will anchor Doral Square at the southeast corner of Doral Boulevard and 87th Avenue in Doral, Florida, according to real estate firm Terra, which is developing the site. A Panda Express restaurant and World of Beer tavern also have signed leases for smaller footprints.
Doral, to the west of Miami, has been one of South Florida’s fastest-growing cities since it was incorporated in 2003. The city of about 68,000 residents also has become a major employment base, with such firms as Carnival Cruise Lines and Perry Ellis International locating there.
The White House had initially announced in October that next year’s G-7 Summit would be held at President Trump’s Doral resort but quickly canceled those plans because of widespread criticism that the President could benefit financially and the resort would get free publicity.
Doral Square is expected to be completed in 2021. It will feature an urban street with ground-floor retailers and tree-lined sidewalks.
“We see Doral Square as an opportunity to respond to pent-up demand for more retail and dining options with ample parking, and at the same time to provide secure open-space amenities such as plazas, public seating areas and pedestrian promenades that promote walkability, connectivity and the pedestrian urban experience,” David Martin, president of Terra, said in a statement.
Terra's other projects in Doral include the Doral Commons retail center and the Modern Doral and Neovita residential projects.
For the Record
Touzet Studio of Miami is the architect for Doral Commons. Courtelis Company is handling leasing on behalf of Terra.
